UNBEATABLE VARIETY OF ANIMALS AGAINST BLUE/GREEN SCREEN: FRAMEPOOL PARTNERS WITH ANIMALS ON BLUE

Munich/ London/ Paris/ New York, July 28th 2010 – Framepool, the footage collection run by filmmakers, has enlarged its portfolio of animals for composition in partnership with Animals on Blue, the industry leader in this unique field. This exclusive distribution agreement with Animals on Blue, will enable Framepool's clients to easily access and reuse stunning footage of all species shot professionally against blue or green screen.

Having Animals on Blue on board enables Framepool to offer one of the world’s biggest and most comprehensive collections of blue/green screen animal footage. More than 3000 clips of a great variety of species and movements can now easily be found and downloaded at Framepool.com. Furthermore, if it hasn't already been filmed, special requests from customers can be shot to order.

Animals are one of the most frequently used film subjects but are extremely difficult to capture on film, especially if appearing outside of their natural habitat – a situation often seen in commercials. Blue/green screen technology allows the footage of the animals to be "composited" or "chroma-keyed" into a final project. This compositing technique opens a lot of creative possibilities for a variety of media including film, television and web. Filmmakers can profit from the in-depth knowledge of experienced specialists in filming challenging animals like Lions or a poisonous Egyptian Cobra without any of the associated risks! The current animal welfare laws and prohibitive insurance costs, coupled with health and safety regulations make this work impossible for nonspecialists – and there are not many producers who can look back on 25 years of experience in this unique field, as Farokh Khorooshi, Director and founder of Animals on Blue does.

"Putting an adult male lion in front of a camera in strange surroundings can cause a lot of stress to the animal – you really need to know how to make him feel comfortable. You cannot convince a crocodile to act in the expected way by discussing the plot with it. To get great footage from an animal you need to understand its natural behaviour patterns as well as the personal characteristics of the individual animal", Farokh Khorooshi explains. "This complicated process makes the result of our work extremely rare. We spent a long time looking for the right partner who could appreciate and market this valuable product. We chose Framepool because the company is run by filmmakers who really understand the challenges of their customers and licensors. We feel that they are the ideal partner to market our footage."

Footage from Animals on Blue now available at www.framepool.com

"We are extremely pleased that Animals on Blue selected Framepool as their marketing and distribution partner. Their material is outstanding in terms of quality, exclusivity and variety", states Ulrike Ziegler, Chief Content Officer and co-founder of Framepool. "This collection enables our customers to realize unusual concepts which wouldn’t be possible to implement otherwise."

Animals on Blue
Animals on Blue hold their own film studio on a 16 acre site in Buckinghamshire, England, where they can film animals under controlled conditions. Farokh Khorooshi who has more than 25 years experience in filming animals founded the production company in 1999. Today they have the most advanced optical and technical equipment which allows them to achieve very high shooting standards under difficult conditions. The filmmakers work with 35mm film cameras as well as the latest RED camera. Animals on Blue will also soon become the world’s first Carbon free film studio where all electricity will be generated by wind turbines.

AND THE TROPHY GOES TO ... : FRAMEPOOL ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE 2010 FRAMEPOOL/ LBB ONLINE/ FIREFLIES CHALLENGE

Filmmakers' competition ended with a neck-and-neck-race between the top five entries

Cannes, June 24th 2010 – The winners of the 2010 Framepool/ LBB Online/ Fireflies Challenge come from the United Kingdom, Japan and the USA. More than 40 filmmakers from all over the world produced remarkable short films on the topic of "courage", and were judged by a prominent jury including representatives from RSA, Publicis and BBDO. The awards took place in Cannes yesterday evening, and there will be another screening of the best five films on Friday 25th June at the straight 8 2010 'best of an ad bunch' premieres.

And here they are:

The Grand Winner(s):

The award for the best film of the 2010 Framepool/ LBB Online/ Fireflies Challenge goes to three filmmakers from London: Mike Clear, Rob Hughes and Ben Harrex. Their film "Leonard and Janet's Story" is based on a comprehensive project focusing on the secret of lasting love. Leonard and Janet are one of 120 couples Mike and his wife Alanna interviewed as they drove a motorbike and sidecar from Alaska to Patagonia, along the longest road in the world. The film "Leonard and Janet's Story" combines Mike's own documentary footage with symbolic archive material visualizing the emotional agitations the couple had to face.

The film was a joint effort between the TV producers Mike Clear, Rob Hughes and editor Ben Harrex – all of whom have already successfully participated in previous industry awards.

Fireflies Silver Winners:
Two young filmmakers from Japan and the USA closely followed the winning team – and as the jury couldn't separate them, they were awarded joint second place:

"Albert II" produced by Daisuke Izumi, a young director from Tokyo. His entertaining short film tells the story of Albert II's moon landing. Not to make the film's message too "preachy", Albert II represents a monkey – albeit one played by a human actor. The film is by turns humorous and serious, varying between historical footage and Daisuke's self-shot material.

"Courage Inspires Courage" by Corlin Stubbs. This award-winning writer and director from Los Angeles wanted to draw attention to courageous decisions in everyday lives – not changing the world, but at least in this case, changing the life of a woman, her child and ultimately the man she is escaping. Corlin contrasted the main fictional story with footage of historical milestones from the Framepool collection.

Top Five:
The top five films are completed by another Japanese entry, and the collective effort of the film class from the Institute of Design in Hamburg, Germany:
"Mark of Courage", co-directed by Kazuhiro Morikiyo and Miyuki Saito, and "Retired Love" by Astrid Hüller, Christina Strauß, Nina Brandt, David Küchenthal, Markus Baier and Chad Ochs.

All these works were honored for their outstanding creativity and professional quality. The jury for the 2010 Framepool/ LBB Online/ Fireflies Challenge consisted of some of the most respected representatives from the advertising industry, amongst them Jake Scott (RSA), Olivier Altmann (Publicis), Ringan Ledwidge (Rattling Stick), Stefan Sonnenfeld (Company 3), Sandy Watson Scott (The Fireflies), Wolf Jaiser (Framepool, 16tracks), Barnsley (The Mill), Piyush Pandey (Ogilvy), Kim Gehrig (Academy) and Steffen Gentis (BBDO).

A SYMPHONY FOR THE SENSES – FRAMEPOOL PROVIDES EXCEPTIONAL HD-CLIPS FOR SONY MUSIC'S AMBITIOUS BLU-RAY PROJECT

"forsenses" pushes optical and acoustic senses to the limits

London/ Munich/ Paris/ New York, October 20th 2009 – "forsenses" combines amazing HD-shoots of the elements with a specifically composed 3D surround chill-out soundtrack on a Blu-ray Disc. The result is an audiovisual symphony which opens up a whole new dimension: Never before has film been such an intense experience. The HD-shoots originate entirely from Framepool and reflect a technical standard which is state-of-the-art.

Behind "forsenses" lie the endeavours of notable film specialists, high-speed cinematographers, underwater filmmakers and helicopter camera experts. All of them portray the elements of earth, water, fire and air in a unique and amazing way: beautiful sunrises and sunsets, impressive volcanoes, massive mountain ranges, the fauna and beauty of the ocean, cityscapes by night and a whole lot more. All film material originates from Framepool.com, the footage collection run by filmmakers. Including breathtaking shots never before seen by the naked eye, created using highly sensitive specialist equipment. Thanks to exceptional HD-footage, spectacles such as a raindrop splashing onto a leaf or flower can now be witnessed on Blu-ray.

"forsenses" has been produced by BluElements, a production company exclusively founded for this project by Philipp von Kap-herr, owner of Selectfilm, and the composer and music producer Ivo Moring (ALANAproductions). Since the very beginning, Framepool has been included in the project. For more than five years a huge amount of material has been scanned and carefully screened for content and quality. But not only existing stock material was used: licensors from Framepool’s broad network also shot to order.

"In close cooperation with Framepool, 'forsenses' came to life. Intensive collaboration and close consultation played an important role for the success of this project", says Philipp von Kap-herr of BluElements. "This disc combines the experience of filmmakers from all over the world, unified under Framepool’s umbrella. Never before has High Definition been realised so intensively. We are really proud of the result."

Original HD footage from Framepool

"One can’t imagine professional filmmaking without High Definition today. The majority of our collection represents this quality already", underlines Ulf Remy, Senior Account Manager at Framepool. "All the more, we are really pleased, that 'forsenses' now enables all consumers to experience the fascination of High Definition in such a comprehensive way. The combination with perfect 3D surround sound is really magnificent."

ON THE WINNERS’ ROSTRUM IN CANNES WITH FOOTAGE FROM FRAMEPOOL: AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL FILM WINS SILVER LION AND YOUNG DIRECTOR AWARD

Mother London’s clip "You are powerful" won two of the most important industry awards – with footage from Framepool

Cannes/ London, Summer 2009 – This year’s winner of the Cannes Film Lions in Silver, category "Public Awareness Messages", is a video made mostly with footage from Framepool: Advertising agency Mother London created this film for Amnesty International. "You are powerful" places ordinary people into news footage via compositing technique – to visualise everybody’s ability to stop the abuse of human rights. Besides being a Silver Lions winner, the film was honoured with the Young Director Award 2009.
News Footage in "You are powerful"

Amnesty International is all about ordinary people standing up for human rights. In order to demonstrate how everyone has the power to make a difference in the world, Mother’s idea for the film was to show a range of ordinary people physically preventing human rights abuse. The concept was executed by compositing these people into existing news footage, in which they prevent violence and abuse.

News Footage in "You are powerful"

Framepool, the footage collection run by filmmakers, offers a manifold portfolio of news clips, originating from the world’s leading news agencies. So it took only a short while for the creative professionals and Framepool’s research department to find the perfect shots for this project. The film works with footage from Framepool – all of these clips originate from news reports.
"You are powerful" was screened during the 2008 Secret Policeman’s Ball and during the television broadcast on Channel 4, before later going out across cinema screens. During the last Cannes Lions Festival it was recognised with two of the world’s most important industry awards: the Cannes Film Lions in Silver and the Young Director Award, category European broadcast.

One of the 20 best clips in 2009
The Amnesty International film was also screened at the APA (Advertising Producers Association (www.a-p-a.net) annual event 2009, where the twenty best ads of the year are showcased.

"We were really proud to be the footage library for this important project – and are now very pleased that it raised so much awareness and reputation," says Jody Winterbottom, Sales Director at Framepool London. "The fact that today’s news reports are full of political persecution or children in war shows that there is an absolute need for everybody to interact and support Amnesty International on its way to improve human rights wherever possible."

To watch the film please have a look at: Client’s Work / Mother / Amnesty International

Creative Credits:
The "You Are Powerful" campaign was developed for Amnesty International at Mother London, filmed by director Kim Gehrig via Academy Films, with producers Ed Sayer and Lucy Gossage. Footage was selected by All Rights Clearance. Post production was done at Smoke & Mirrors, Rushes and Framestore.

SELECTED FOR LA BIENNALE DE LYON 2009: OLIVIER PAOLI REALISES HIS VIDEO ARTS WITH FRAMEPOOL FOOTAGE

Framepool enabled the new project "J’aurais voulu être" ("I would have wanted to be") of the acknowledged French Artist, Photographer and Filmmaker

Paris/ Munich/ London/ New York, September 17th 2009 – Framepool, the footage collection run by filmmakers, is pleased to announce its involvement in the new video arts project of Olivier Paoli. Acknowledged for his inventive and sometimes provocative works, the artist now presents the results of his long-term cooperation with Framepool. “J’aurais voulu être“, the visualisation of an existential dream: To live diverse lives and to simulate the life of another person. By the use of motion content from Framepool.com, Olivier Paoli realises a family of self-portraits, evolving between humour, fascination and disillusionment.

The philosophy behind Olivier Paoli’s arts reinvents the everyday and questions the sacred. His latest project "J’aurais voulu être" shows the disillusion, disguise and self-distance being part of contemporary life. Olivier Paoli uses video clips from Framepool as raw material to act as a candidate in several roles: DJ, paparazzi, painter, a citation, and many more. The result is a multitude of imaginary self-portraits – pending between fascination, cynism and fun:

With "J’aurais voulu être", Olivier Paoli has been selected as exhibitor for the "Biennale de Lyon 2009", which is dedicated to the most pathbreaking projects in contemporary arts. Composed of the work of a select key group of international artists, both established and emerging alike, the Biennale de Lyon will run from 16th September until 3rd January 2010. This year's theme will be 'The Spectacle of the Everyday' – and the footage project of Olivier Paoli gives a perfect visualisation of it. His work will be presented on September 29th at the Médiatheque de Vaise in Lyon.

"My contacts at Framepool played an important role in this video arts project – I really appreciate all the help and know-how they provided. One can see that this is a company of filmmakers themselves, they definitely understand the needs of creative professionals", says Olivier Paoli.

"We are very pleased to see Olivier Paoli invited to the Biennale de Lyon this year, as his works stand for a new and creative media approach", confirms Jean-Charles Pentecouteau, Sales Director at Framepool France. "Even more, J’aurais voulu être is a perfect visualisation of the creative potential behind footage and archive material in general."

München/ London/ Paris/ New York, 07.

New York/ Hollywood/ Paris/ London/ Munich, June 15th 2009 – Framepool, the footage collection run by filmmakers, is making great strides within all facets of the visual media industries in North and South America, reports the company's founder and CEO, Dr. Stephan Bleek.

Over the past year, Framepool's newly-opened subsidiaries across America have fulfilled custom footage requests for major projects in advertising and entertainment. Highlights include JWT's most recent Microsoft campaign and Mother's latest KY campaign, plus work with a number of agencies in South America; original documentaries for cinema and TV (including "Betty Ford: The Real Deal", "Build It Bigger: Abu Dhabi", "Act of God", "End of America"); dramatic TV series (including Fox's "Fringe" and ABC's "Castle"); nonfiction entertainment (including several Animal Planet series); studio and indie dramatic feature films and documentaries (including the forthcoming dramas "The Proposal," "My Sister's Keeper," "The Private Life of Pippa Lee" and "The Road"); as well as educational videos for NASA and a new interactive kiosk installation within the Royal Ontario Museum.

"Being already well positioned all over Europe, we decided to focus on the same values when opening our offices in the US: An all-out dedication towards customer service along with in-depth knowledge and passion for the filmmaking process. Our regional directors are all filmmakers themselves and really understand our customers' needs," Bleek explained. "We also continue expanding our archive through high-level partnerships; for example, through our recent collaboration with The National Film Board of Canada, we became the first online archive to offer access to the NFB's extensive catalog. Besides, we are deeply committed to continuously improving the technologies that make Framepool.com one of the world's fastest and most efficient search engines for footage."

FOOTAGE AND ARTS – A PERFECT SYMBIOSIS

Framepool provides content for two films of François Lévy-Kuentz: "Quand l’Art prend le pouvoir" and "Calder, Sculpteur de l’Air"

Josephine Baker in Paris during the Golden Twenties, still taken from Framepool clip.
Paris/ Munich/ London/ New York, May 26th 2009 – Framepool, the footage company run by filmmakers, is pleased to announce its involvement in two projects of François Lévy-Kuentz. The Parisian director and screenwriter is well-known for his documentaries and films about famous artists and writers, a lot of his works are broadcasted on ARTE or France 5. For two of his latest projects he searched for a substantial quantity of historical footage and found it at Framepool.com.

The new film of François Lévy-Kuentz, "Calder, Sculpteur de l’Air", highlights the works, impact and influence of one of the most important artists of the 20th century, the American sculptor and painter Alexander Calder. Director François Lévy-Kuentz used a lot of historical film material to visualise the cultural and social background of this artist. From the city life of Manhattan in the beginning of the 20th century to Josephine Baker dancing in Paris or the New York nightlife in the "Golden Twenties" – all this could be revived by means of footage from Framepool.

"Quand l’Art prend le pouvoir" or "When Art Seizes Power" shows the aesthetic, political and social backgrounds behind the artistic formation "La Figuration Narrative" – a group of European artists in the years around the student protests 1968. The documentary contains a lot of original film material dating back to the 1960ies: Be it the contemporary design of consumer goods, the insight into cultural developments or political events – again, François Lévy-Kuentz made use of stock footage from Framepool to evoke authenticity.

"We are always pleased to provide footage for highly acknowledged documentaries like those of François Lévy-Kuentz now," says Jean-Charles Pentecouteau, Directeur Framepool Paris. "Filmmakers are artists – and we are proud to enable great works by offering state-of-the-art quality and diversity with our collection."

NACHWUCHS FÜR CANNES: FRAMEPOOL UNTERSTÜTZT DIE OHMROLLE

München, 14. April 2009 – Am 16.

THE FUTURE OF HISTORY, NOW ALIVE AT FRAMEPOOL.COM

Munich/ Paris/ London/ New York, March 23rd 2009 – Filmmakers searching for historic highlights or symbolic pictures to realise their creative ideas should now have a look at Framepool.com. The footage collection introduces a new category to help media professionals finding relevant historic content in a fast and efficient way. Customers only use the keyword “historic event” during their online research and get a selection of the most important events and persons connected with their subject of interest.

"History will be kind to me for I intend to write it."
Sir Winston Churchill
"A library, to modify the famous metaphor of Socrates, should be the delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history comes to life", as Carl Rowan said once – Framepool makes this vision come true now. To ease the way through history for all filmmakers searching for especially meaningful and significant historic content, the footage library established a new section within its online portal: "Historic Event".

With this keyword customers will find a selection of more than 1.000 shots of the world's most momentous events or icons of the past – be it World War I + II, the Moon Landing, the Fall of the Berlin Wall or 9/11. Be it Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy, Josephine Baker, Charles Lindbergh or Princess Diana. The shots cover more than a century and range from the first moving pictures by the Brothers Lumière to the inauguration of US president Barack Obama.

The new category enables Framepool’s customers to receive the highlights out of a special area or region instead of clicking themselves through the whole inventory of the comprehensive historic archive. They only need to use the keyword "Historic Event" together with their subject of interest (e.g. "Historic Event + USA"; "Historic Event + 1920-1929" or "Historic Event + Catastrophe").

"Famous historic pictures are a perfect way for filmmakers to create a special atmosphere, transport a certain image or reflect the past with their own eyes. People from all over the world will understand what is meant because these pictures are common knowledge. That is why we introduced a new category in our collection – to make creative storytelling for our customers as inspiring as it can be", says Ulrike Ziegler, Founder and Chief Content Officer at Framepool.

OSCAR AWARDS2009:
FRAMEPOOL KEEPS FINGERS CROSSED FOR "DER BAADER MEINHOF KOMPLEX"

New York/ London/ Munich, February 20th 2009 – Archive material can indeed deserve an Oscar – this shows the German contribution for the Oscar Awards 2009, "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex". With this production Constantin Film consequently decided for the use of historic material, partly originating from the Framepool Collection. In this way the film achieves an extremely high degree of authenticity.

One of Framepool's videos which have been used for the film, showing the city of Berlin end of the 60ies.
In the night of February 22nd/ 23rd the winners of the world's most important and treasured award within the film industry will be announced. This year a German production is nominated for the category "Best Foreign Film" – and herewith footage from Framepool. "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex" exemplifies in a perfect way how film productions can increase their valuation by the use of archive material. Original videos from the described timeframe draw the audience directly to the historic settings and evoke an authenticity which would be extremely difficult to achieve otherwise – in particular when it comes to historic themes. The audience experiences intensively, how the boundaries between fiction and reality are breaking away. Along with the artistic alliance of new and historic material a completely new type of documentary cinema is arising – and this year's nomination for the 81st Oscar Awards is an eminent acknowledgement of this artistry.

"'Der Baader Meinhof Komplex' is an excellent example, how we support production companies with our footage collection. State-of-the-art technology enables a rapid online research for suitable shots. The favoured material can be provided in any format or quality to fit individual needs regarding further utilisation – and what award worthy results can be achieved this way are exemplified by 'Der Baader Meinhof Komplex'", says Dr. Stephan Bleek, CEO at Framepool. "We keep our fingers crossed for Constantin Film during the award ceremony!"

FRAMEPOOL OPENS NEW OFFICES IN NEW YORK AND CHICAGO

New York, 23rd June 2008 - From a perch that offers a 360° view of the Manhattan skyline, and from a retreat in the windy city, FRAMEPOOL is excited to introduce New York and Chicago creatives and filmmakers to its unique, European based collection.

Following debuts of satellite offices in Paris and London, Framepool is now in New York, Miami, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
"The huge demand makes it absolutely necessary to be in place in the States," explains CEO Stephan Bleek. "Framepool is one of the biggest online providers for premium motion content. We offer an extensive collection of more than 400,000 film scenes - most in 35mm, HD, and 16 mm."

More than 500 talented directors and DPs are represented in the Framepool collection. Framepool also offers footage from, among others, the AP Archive, the National Filmboard of Canada and the extreme sports collection "Nuit de la Glisse/Perfect Moment" (worldwide exclusive).

Framepool's motto is run by filmmakers and the New York office will be headed by award-winning, non-fiction filmmaker, Mona Kanin. Framepool is strengthening its American presence with another new appointment as experienced footage specialist Krista Kilgore takes over as the Framepool Director in Chicago.

Peter Carstens, who represented Framepool in Miami for several years, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of Framepool in the States. "The world of advertising is changing at an accelerated pace. Producers need reliable and responsive partners. We're in perpetual motion, improving our platforms to match the highest and newest standards of technology and are confident we'll impress filmmakers with our "made-in-Germany' sensibilities," says Carstens.

"We love making films and perceive ourselves as partners to filmmakers. We know what it's like to walk in these shoes; we understand the process, the creative potential and the real world constraints," comments Kanin. Kilgore adds, "We're so excited by Framepool's fresh approach. I'm inspired by the wonderful new content I have to work with; it's refreshing to be part of a superb but small team, with direct access to the CEO. We're a totally professional shop."

New Sales Manager, Anna Toemp, who"s worked previously for Corbis and Framepool in Munich, adds, "Of course, we"re curious to see how New York"s creatives will react to our highly varied and sometimes edgy footage. We expect that our European content will be received with great enthusiasm by many people here."

Toemp, Kilgore, Kanin and Carstens join colleague Alexander von Roon. From the Hollywood office, Alexander has sold footage to all the major Studios, (look for Framepool shots in "Sicko", "The Pink Panther 2", "Indiana Jones 4" and "Speed Racer", among others) as well as Advertisers. FOCAL INTERNATIONAL AWARDS 2008
Framepool disco dancing guru grooves with DIESEL

Munich/London, 28th May 2008- Framepool was recognised at the FOCAL International awards last Wednesday night in London, as director and producer Stuart Warren-Hill from Hexstatic won the award for 'Best Use of Footage in an Advertisement' for the viral "Diesel 78: Learn Disco Dance".

Stuart Warren-Hill approached Framepool to find the weirdest footage material available for a viral commercial for sneakers of the iconic Italian brand Diesel. Framepool’s research specialist Stella Waltemade sourced the very bizarre sequence of a disco dancing course in Finland. Stuart skillfully created additional scenes with the DIESEL sneakers and incorporated them into the original footage - a subtle technique made famous by 'Forrest Gump'.

Stephan Bleek, CEO of Framepool Munich said: "I would like to congratulate Stuart on his win. I would also like to thank him for coming to Framepool and working with us on this enormously successful project. And congratulations to Stella too who found this cool piece of footage. To play with archive footage is a great challenge for all creatives in today´s advertising film market - this has been recognised by the award."
